Question:

: Hi there,
: My JRT has had five puppies. They are three weeks old today, but there is a problem. Fleas are all over them, and we can't get rid of them. We keep them inside the house in a dog box and we keep cleaning and switching out the carpeting underneath them but it still doesn't help. The Mum had the puppies in a flea infested area. Can anyone suggest something we can do to get rid of the fleas? The fleas seem to love biting them around their eyes and on their little faces. I even try hand-picking them off and throwing them into this little flea trap thing we have (it's basically a light bulb over a sticky disc) I've even tried leaving the flea trap with them in the box but it doesnt help at all. Is there anything that is safe to use on puppies that young?

: Thanks in advance
: Cindy

Hi Cindy,

There are several posts on the board this week about this subject and about all you can do is consult with your Vet. Most OTC products and some of the things to kill fleas can also kill young puppies. Please talk to your Vet about this ASAP for the health of your puppies!
Sorry I can't be of more help, but using flea products on young puppies and a nursing mother is something your Vet will have to tell you.

Regards
Linda
