Question:

: My JRT seems to have a very thin layer of hair on her underside from her chest down, but also on her hind legs on the outside where visible all the time. I can see her skin, and all the black spots that we couldn't see before. Any suggestions as to why this is happening, and how to remedy the situation. I do not know what is normal and what is not. As for food, we feed her Nutro. Please Help.

Hi Crystal,

Without any of us being able to see your JRT, it would be hard to tell you if her shedding is "normal." I had a broken coated terrier that had a really sparse coat to begin with and in places is was easy to see right down to her skin.

Usually a JRT's coat is sparse on the inside and underbelly. If you are really concerned about this hair loss the best thing to do is take her to your vet and discuss this. He/she can determine whether this is normal shedding or something that needs to be addressed.

I can tell you this, if your dog is an indoor dog, they will shed 24/7 all year long.

Regards,
Marie
